We made models of fossil prints today, using homemade (lab made?) modelling dough to simulate sand or mud.
Our models will be used in a museum of fossils and prehistoric life for students at the Lowell School.
Modelling dough is very easy to made. You can make models of imprints at home, too! What is something at home that you could make a print of? What would the paleontologists of the future think of the print you made?
Lab 204 Modelling Dough
- 2 parts flour
- 1 part salt
- 1 part water
Mix the flour and salt together in a bowl. Add the water, and mix well. You might need to add more flour or water to get the right consistency. Knead the dough for 5 minutes to make it soft and pliable.
